Staff Accountant 

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Staff accountants are supervised by engagement partners, or other more experienced senior accountants. Initially, they are given less complex accounting and tax assignments. As they gain experience, they are given more difficult assignments and greater responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Become familiar with the firm’s policies and procedures.
  •  
  • Understand the rules, requirements, code of conduct and standards of the AICPA, and the authoritative literature established by the FASB, GASB, and the PCAOB.
  •  
  • Perform assigned audit procedures for specific accounts and transactions under the supervision of more experienced staff.
  • Obtain a working knowledge of tax and accounting research techniques.
  •  
  • Obtain a working knowledge of firm technology, including the use of email, and the Internet; and the use of Microsoft Word and Excel, and firm tax preparation and time and billing software.
  •  
  • Become proficient in the preparation of corporate, individual, partnership, fiduciary and other tax returns prepared by the firm.
  •  

Assume responsibility for the completion of tax returns under the supervision of more experienced staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting

 

 
Senior Staff Accountant 

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Experienced Staff Accountants can perform work on most audit engagements. They may direct and review the work of staff accountants. They present pertinent information to the senior, engagement manager or partner and follow their advice. They can recognize issues on engagements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Understand the firm’s policies and procedures.
  •  
  • Possess technical knowledge sufficient to supervise staff accountants.
  •  
  • Begin acquiring the skills necessary to develop quality client relationships and loyalty.
  •  
  • Begin developing a command of pertinent financial statement pronouncements and regulations (SSARS, SAS, FASB, GASB, GAAP & PCAOB)
  •  
  • Possess knowledge to determine compliance with Federal and state laws, statutes and regulations.
  •  
  • Perform compliance testing to ensure corrective action plans in response to Single Audit findings are implemented and effective in mitigating the risk of future and repeat audit findings.
  •  
  • Draft complete audit reports that clearly and concisely describe issues identified, implications, and value-added recommendations to improve the effectiveness of internal controls.
  •  
  • Proficient in tax, accounting, and auditing research including knowledge of the reference sources available to the firm.
  •  
  • Possess a working knowledge of firm technology, including the use of email, and the Internet; and the use of Microsoft Word and Excel, and firm tax preparation and time and billing software.
  •  
  • Evaluate the performance of staff accountants.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  •  
  • Three years experience as a staff accountant (or equivalent experience as deemed appropriate by the partners).
